In person Mindful Self-Compassion 8 week course

Overview
This is an empirically supported compassion training programme developed by Christopher Germer and Kristin Neff. Through meditations, daily activities, self-reflection and group learning you will learn an approach that can be applied straight away in all aspects of your life – where we really need it! If you want to live more wholeheartedly, are exhausted by your inner critic, feeling discouraged by fear of failure or wishing for more ease in your relationships this course is for you. Please note this 8 week course is being offered in a slightly different format to best support your engagement and experience, with a full day immersion at the beginning and end of the course. Please note all dates when you book, and contact me if you have any questions.

Self-compassion is the practice of repeatedly evoking good will toward ourselves especially when we’re struggling – cultivating the same wish for ourselves that all living beings have, to live happily and free from suffering.

Over time we develop more inner strength and resilience, allowing us for e.g. to offer ourselves the kindness and understanding we offer others at difficult times,  motivate ourselves to change, have the courage to hold boundaries, forgive ourselves and others more often, not lose ourselves when caring for others and be more authentic in relationships.

A sense of well-being and ease begins to emerge, whatever we have gone through in the past and whatever hardships we may be facing now, reducing anxiety, depression and the nagging underlying insecurity that is familiar to so many of us.
As our ability to experience compassion for ourselves increases, so does our ability to relate to others in the same way

Sat 30th Sept 9.30 – 5.30
Sat 7th Oct 9.30 – 1.30
Sat 14th Oct 9.30 – 1.30
Sat 21st Oct 9.30 – 1.30
Sun 29th Oct 2.00 – 6.00
Sat 4th Nov 9.30 – 1.30
Sat 11th Nov 9.30 – 5.30

There are 8 3 hr classes and a half-day retreat.  Each session features meditations, daily life practices, self-reflective exercises, and group sharing.  A workbook and my own guided meditations complement the in-class learning.

MSC is therapeutic, but it’s not therapy insofar as the emphasis is on building emotional resources, rather than addressing old wounds. Positive change occurs naturally as we develop the capacity to be with ourselves in a kinder, more compassionate way.

You will learn:

  • to stop being so hard on yourself
  • to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
  • to transform difficult relationships, both old and new
  • to become your own best teacher
Additional details – all sessions include 15 min tea break; concessions are available please contact me to discuss.

Join me for a resourcing deep dive into the heart opening path of mindful self-compassion (MSC).  Whether you’re a beginner curious to learn more or you’ve already completed the course I’m offering you a nurturing weekend of teaching and practice around the core principles of this transformational approach. The ethos of MSC invites us to dwell at depth with both the joys and challenges of living this human life – held in a container of respect, care and kindness. Discover or recover this way to greater freedom and ease of being in the beautiful peaceful surroundings of the Surrey Hills at Fintry!

This not a silent meditation retreat. It’s a spacious, experiential, meditation based learn and practice resourcing weekend.  Each day will include a blend of teaching, guided exercises, self-compassion practices, movement meditations, individual reflection, small group discussions and time for individual self-care outside of the sessions.

Through MSC you can learn…

  • how to stop being so hard on yourself
  • how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
  • how to handle difficult emotions like shame with greater ease
  • how to transform difficult relationships, both old and new
  • how to balance tender and fierce compassion for more boundaries
  • the power of self and other forgiveness
  • mindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday life
  • how to become your own best teacher

The weekend will offer a spacious and gentle exploration of the key themes and practices of MSC, offered in a format which provides a nourishing space to let go of everyday concerns and respond to your own needs with kindness. There will be periods of silence woven into the weekend timetable.

The schedule includes plenty of time around meal breaks for going on walks or resting. Arrivals from 2.30 for tea and cake on Friday, first group session at 5pm and weekend ends after lunch at 3pm on Sunday.

This weekend is for beginners as well as those wanting to refresh their practice. It’s for you if you need a restorative weekend in like-minded company exploring Mindful Self-Compassion. If you’ve already taken an MSC course come and be nourished revisiting this approach and enjoying time to connect and practice together with others.

I’ve been leading residential courses and retreats for 13 years, and each one is unique, carefully planned and supportive, as well as relaxed and fun. It’s a space for you to drop into more intimacy with your experience, awake to all of your senses, moment by moment. Practices will be indoors and outdoors in beautiful garden setting. As well as some silence so that you can connect more fully with your inner experience, there will be opportunities for sharing and individual support if needed. All of it will support you in befriending and exploring whatever is showing up for you.

Some experience of mindfulness would be helpful but is not essential – I will follow up your booking with a call to respond to any questions or concerns you might have. All you need is an interest in learning principles and practices which offer support in living with greater self-compassion.

Mindfulness MBSR– 8 week course

Overview
It’s a proven way to gain a solid foundation in mindfulness as a way of living and meditation as a daily resource, to ease stress, improve overall health, and open the door to greater well-being and joy. The course is for everyone, beginners or those seeking to deepen their practice.

This course follows faithfully the programme developed and recently updated by Jon Kabat-Zinn and Browns University. This unique world renowned curriculum has been clinically proven to be highly effective in working with a range of physical and psychological problems, as well as improving levels of wellbeing, joy and ease.

In mindfulness we bring gentle friendly curiosity to what is happening in our experience moment by moment. We start to see how much we are driven by habit patterns and beliefs that we are barely conscious of and find new choices about how to respond in any situation. We recover an inner steadiness whatever the external weather.

It suits anyone who wants to:

  • move from stress reactivity to stress responding
  • befriend your emotions
  • experience more joy and gratitude
  • communicate more skillfully and resolve conflict
  • enhance mind-body healing
  • find more ease with chronic pain

Each themed session includes meditations, group discussions and topics. You will be introduced to practices exploring the body and breath in stillness and in gentle movement, as well ways to integrate mindfulness in our daily lives. Booking is by application so I can make sure that the course is a good fit for you, at this time.

The cost includes:

  • An initial 30 min post application individual telephone orientation session
  • 8 x 2hr 45 min classes with tea break
  • 1 x 6hr Retreat Day
  • unique audio to practice with at home each day
  • an original course handbook to support your learning
  • individual support throughout via email or phone
