A Five-day in person MSC Intensive Course 

DATE: Sunday 22nd to Friday 27th May, 2022.

VENUE: Emerson College, Forest Row, East Sussex

COST: £895.00 including full board accommodation and all centre facilities.

The next 5-day residential MSC course is the full course offered in an intensive format so it includes guided meditation practices, short talks, experiential exercises, group discussion, and informal practices. It takes place over 5 days and covers all material from the 8 classes and retreat session just like the weekly course. Accommodation is in single rooms, and the booking includes delicious breakfasts, lunch and dinner + other refreshments each day, full use of the whole retreat centre including beautiful grounds and countryside setting.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, intensive training course designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. The course can be taught weekly or in a residential format as it is here. It is based on research by Kristin Neff, integrated with the clinical perspective of Christopher Germer. MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

After participating in this course, you’ll be able to:

  • practise self-compassion in daily life
  • understand the empirically-supported benefits of self-compassion
  • motivate yourself with kindness rather than criticism
  • handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • transform challenging relationships, old and new
  • manage caregiver fatigue
  • practise the art of savoring and self-appreciation

Requirements to attend: Prior attendance on a course of Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is required (if you have not trained in MBSR or MBCT, but have other mindfulness training and a regular mindfulness practice, please apply and detail this in your application).

This course does not constitute a training to teach MSC, though it does fulfil one of the prerequisites for entering training to become an MSC teacher.

Our mindfulness and self-compassion events are aimed at supporting your resilience and well-being in the midst of the inevitable challenges that life brings. The evidence base for the benefits of both approaches is compelling, as is the feedback from our considerable number of trainings and retreats over the years. We are unable to give guarantees as to how the training will impact you though, as this is dependent on so many factors. We do however commit to offer you kindness and support throughout, whilst you remain responsible for your own well-being. Given us full details of any concerns on the booking form helps us support you in this way form the start.

In the vast majority of cases your place will be confirmed on receipt of a completed application form and payment (either a deposit or full amount). In some circumstances it may not be advisable to attend at a particular time in your life (eg in the midst of major upheaval, recent significant bereavement or trauma etc). If on receipt of your application any of these seems to apply we will contact you to discuss. In the event that taking the training might not be advisable, a full refund of any monies paid would of course be made. We are always happy to discuss if you are unsure whether to apply or have any particular queries before doing so. The deposit is refundable up to 6 weeks before the event – if pandemic restrictions are reimposed by the government and the training is cancelled all monies will be returned to you.
